What is Reiki? A Beginner's Guide

If you’ve heard the word Reiki but aren’t quite sure what it is, you’re not alone. Many people are curious about Reiki but wonder if it’s something they can learn or whether it’s right for them.

The good news is that Reiki is simple, gentle, and easy to begin exploring.

So, What Is Reiki?

Reiki is a gentle wellness practice that encourages relaxation and helps you create moments of calm in your day. Many people use Reiki as part of their self-care routine to slow down, reconnect with themselves, and find a greater sense of balance.

Rather than thinking of Reiki as something mysterious, think of it as setting aside intentional time to breathe, become present, and care for yourself.

Why Are So Many People Interested in Reiki?

Life is busy. Between work, family, and daily responsibilities, it’s easy to spend all of your energy taking care of everyone else.

Many people come to Reiki because they want to:

  • Feel calmer during stressful days.

  • Create a simple self-care routine.

  • Slow down and reconnect with themselves.

  • Set aside quiet time to relax.

  • Feel more balanced and grounded.

Can Anyone Learn Reiki?

Yes. You don’t need any special experience to begin learning about Reiki.

Many beginners start simply because they’re looking for a gentle way to support their well-being. Reiki is often practiced alongside other healthy habits such as mindfulness, meditation, spending time in nature, healthy eating, and regular movement.

What Does a Self-Reiki Practice Look Like?

A Self-Reiki practice doesn’t have to take hours.

Many people begin with just 10 to 15 quiet minutes. They may sit comfortably, take a few slow breaths, gently place their hands on different areas of the body, and allow themselves to simply be still.

For many people, this becomes a peaceful part of their daily routine.

My Approach to Reiki

As a dental hygienist and Reiki teacher, I’ve spent years caring for people in a healthcare setting. That experience has shaped the way I teach.

My goal isn’t to make Reiki feel complicated. I want to help people discover simple, practical ways to slow down, reduce stress, and make space for themselves in everyday life.

Whether you’re completely new to Reiki or simply looking for a gentle self-care practice, you’re welcome here.
